We produced a Creation Minute episode called "Grand Canyon" that was released two weeks ago, and boy are the comments flying in from the evolutionists.
Ranson said, "Umm...wow. I can't...wow...that's too dumb to respond to."
Astrounit said, "And oh, boy, is Eric Hovind's latest argument a winner: the current level of the Colorado River is several thousand feet lower than the peak elevations of the Grand Canyon, therefore the river must have flowed uphill to cut the canyon when it was formed."
No, no, no, Astrounit, you missed the point completely! Watch this video again then I will try to elaborate.
Let's point out some facts, then draw some conclusions.
Fact #1 The Top of Grand Canyon is higher than the bottom.
Fact #2 The Colorado River runs through the bottom.
Fact #3 The Colorado River enters the Canyon at 2800 feet above Sea level.
Fact #4 The Colorado River exits the Canyon at 1800 feet above Sea level.
Fact #5 As the Colorado River flows downhill, the ground around it rises uphill.

Conclusion: The Grand Canyon was formed when a large post flood lake breached the top of the current Grand Canyon and eroded a canyon very rapidly. Now the Colorado River is flowing in the bottom, but it did not form the entire canyon. If the Colorado River formed the Grand Canyon over millions of years, it would have had to flow uphill. My point is that it did not happen that way!
For about 100 years scientists believed that Laramide Orogeny would account for the difference in the land level and the river level, however further research has shown that this can not be true. HERE is an article on that if you want to read further. There are also some good books on this subject if your interested.

Thousands not Billions
One logical conclusion would be that there was a massive flood, perhaps worldwide, and this is what formed the canyon. This view makes a lot more sense and goes along with the facts that we see.
If you think that judgment was bad, just wait until he comes and judges the world again. The next one will be with fire! I hope your ready. If not, you might want to take this test.

Eric,
I just thought, for now, that I would point out a HUGE error in your video.
From second 32-35 you state and point to the entrance and exit of the Colorado River, BUT you mixed them up and pointed at the wrong sides. You first point to the Northeast part saying it is the exit, when in fact it is the entrance of the river into the canyon. You then point to the West part and say the river enters here when, in fact, this is the entrance.
Oops a major mistake, but on par with your facts about science in general so maybe it was a Freudian slip.
Better luck next time,
SP
Scientia Perceptum: Thanks for noticing! You are right. In the production the image was placed backwards and needs to be fixed. The science behind the thought is right though. How can you have a river start at 2800 feet and carve out a canyon whose rim is at 7000 feet? Doesn't make sense.
Thanks for noticing the mistake.
Eric
The Grand canyon was formed because of the uplift occuring in that are and it is still occuring today.
The Old Testament scholar Gleason L. Archer explains that the Hebrew word eres is often translated as Earth in English translations of the Bible, when in reality it is also the word for land, as in the land of Israel. Archer explains that eres is used many times throughout the Old Testament to mean land and country. Furthermore, the term tebel, which translates to the whole expanse of the Earth, or the Earth as a whole, is not used in Genesis 6:17, nor in subsequent verses in Genesis 7 (7:4, 7:10, 7:17, 7:18, 7:19).7 If the intent of this passage was to indicate the entire expanse of the Earth, tebel would have been the more appropriate word choice. Consequently, the Hebrew text is more consistent with a local geography for the flood.
"Conclusion: The Grand Canyon was formed when a large post flood lake breached the top of the current Grand Canyon and eroded a canyon very rapidly."
When you have time I would hope you would publish the data and measurements you collected on this. I am especially interested in seeing the data and geolgy that points to this lake you speak of and the location of the remnants of the lake.
I would especially like you to go spend a couple days with a real geologist so he could show the the painstaking work that was done over many years to show the way the canyon was actually formed.
I doubt if you actually understand the actual science behind geology.
Anyway, when you publish a paper on your research I would be interested in seeing it.
Fell asleep during first-year sedimentology class?
I am trying to envision a mechanism through which a global (or even an extremely large-scale but local) flood, when washing over a peneplain like the Colorado Plateau, would erode a single, highly sinuous, mile-deep channel while leaving the surrounding countryside uneroded. This behaviour is definitely at odds with what we observe in areas where there were large catastrophic flooding over relatively smooth surfaces (see the Chanelled Scablands of Washington State or any of a dozen jokhulaup terrains in Iceland).
Argued from personal incredulity much?
Apparently Rob Webb a research geologists with USGS, must have fallen asleep too. He believes the Grand Canyon was created by a large flood in a blink of an eye. Even NatGeo Wild America series says a flood formed the Grand Canyon. Eric Thanks for your ministry! Tell your Dad he's in our prayers.
